CAR STORE CHESTERFIELD, Md.
— Local car shops have long been known for their quirky, funky cars.
In fact, car makers like General Motors and Volkswagen make cars they think people will be interested in.
But now, with the advent of self-driving cars and driverless trucks, the shops have begun looking more like garage parties.
The owners of Car Shop Chesterfield are looking for a new location to showcase their wares, and are opening their doors to the public for the first time in their downtown Chesterfield location.
“We really love the car,” said Car Shop Owner Dan Smith.
For decades, Car Shop owner Smith has been turning out some of the most unique cars ever made.
He said he wants to continue making them.
That’s why, when he started Car Shop, Smith was looking for an area to put his cars.
“It was a good time to be out here, to drive, and I’ve been here about five years,” Smith said.
It was just a couple of years ago that he got his first self-driven car.
Smith said his garage had no one to show him his new car.
“I got an order for it, and it took a week to make it.
It was just too long,” he said.
“So, I thought, ‘Well, I’ll make it myself.’
So, I got it done and then I got a second one for my dad, and now I’m getting one for myself.”
Smith said he plans to open his first shop in the summer.
