CARS, Calif.

— Car Interior Shop in Carlsbad, California, is closing its doors after five decades.

The shop, which specializes in interior design, car repairs, and car restoration, was founded in 1986 by the late Michael G. Kors.

In 2003, Kors sold the business to John and Lisa Hickey, who had worked for the previous owner, who died in 2012.

The shop closed for good in January.

The Hickey family told NBC News that the family was not informed of the closure until the announcement came out late Tuesday night.

Car Interior is a small business, with about 300 customers and about 25 employees.

The business closed after five-and-a-half years in operation, said Lisa Hicky, who is now the shop’s owner.

The store is located at 1430 South Grand Ave., in Carolsbad.

The Hickey brothers say they are hoping to reopen in a new location in the future.
